Moonlight

I stand
In a pool of silver light
Surrounded by darkness.
The moon,
Like a slice of melon,
Lies on his back
Laughing.
“What’s the joke?” I ask.
Red Mars stares boldly,
Sirius winks,
And in an instant
I see
The absurdity of
Life on this planet.
